The
region of Comunidad Valenciana is located in the southeast
of Spain. It is divided in three provinces: Castellón,
Valencia and Alicante and covers over 400 kilometers
of Mediterranean coast. The population is over 4 million
inhabitants. The region offers excellent air, rail,
sea and land communications.
The
province of Alicante has an excellent track-record in
the capability of organising such major sporting events.
Akra
Leuka, Lucentum are some of the names that have been
used to denominate Alicante all along the history.
The
origin of the city starts from the VI Century BC when
it was denominated Tossal de Manises. This will be the
headquarter of the competition and a community centre
and a few comfortable hotels will serve as lodging for
the competitors.
Alicante
is a friendly, hospitable and welcoming city, rich in
ancient Greek, Roman and Arab cultures, something which
can still be seen today in local festivals and traditions.
Its
hot summer and mild winters attract millions of visitors
from all over the world every year.
Alicante
opens its doors to all of the competitors of The Junior
World Orienteering Championships. From the city, the
competitors will travel to Biar, Guardamar and Tibi
where the races will take place. These towns offer a
good variety of terrain as both mountains and beaches
will be used.
